HRT Gain Column Inches

HRT boss Colin Kolles grabbed 4 seconds of attention of the weekend when speaking up about off-throttle blown diffusers. The off-throttle blown diffuser works by keeping a relatively steady amount of exhaust flowing through the diffuser during breaking when the engine is typically at low revs, expelling less exhaust.

Off-throttle blown diffusers became news this weekend when FIA bureaucrats decided they were against their interpretation of the 2011 F1 regulations, a ruling that had several teams crying shenanigans. Renault, who has the most exaggerated version of the off-throttle blown diffuser, were quite vocal stating that a ruling like this would almost scrap their entire car.

Kolles is hinting at a possible protest against the FIA backflip on the system who, after several teams complained, decided to adjourn all talks till the next Technical Working Group meeting. The largest point of protest for HRT is their suggestions that they too have a off-throttle blown diffuser system that they failed to run at the Spanish GP due to the current rules speculations. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

If HRT have an answer to this system, where is it? Instead of protesting during the Monaco race week, use it so we can all see. Why complain when you have developed the system in question? Because it doesn't work!

I'm sure this is the last anyone will hear from HRT in the near future on this topic. HRT can't get a table in the front room of the restaurants in Monaco, there is no way anyone will care to listen to them this week.

Do everyone a favour HRT and don't turn up. You're an embarrassment on race weekend and you're an even bigger embarrassment when you talk to the journos. Maybe after pulling 4 seconds of attention in the news you will be so energised they you find the 4 seconds on the track you're after!?
