Happy Birthday Crack F1!!!!

One year ago I started a blog to pass the time. So much has changed and my free time to blog has varied but I still come back and drop my thoughts on F1 more often than not.

It was a great first season. Season 2 will be even better with 2 Aussie drivers in full time drives for 2012!

Go Daniel Ricciardo!!!!!!

Silly Season News

As F1 takes a break for the Christmas-New Year holidays, Journos still need to fill space in magazines and online. The result? Former F1 drivers and team mates will be answering the phone to questions from the desperate writers needing a story.

Can Raikkonen win another championship? Does Schumacher have what it takes? Can Ferrari win next season? Just some of the questions to be answered by fifty something year old drivers caught off guard when their iPhone rings.

As an Aussie, I'm looking forward to Alan Jones' expert opinions on Daniel Ricciardo or Webbers chances in 2012. I'm sure OneHD in Australia can offer the 1980 champ a free meal in return for a few quotable lines. If we are really lucky, Sir Jack Brabham might get interrupted during his morning cuppa. Hey Jack, tell the bastards to piss off. I'm sure you do anyway.

So keep your eyes out over the next couple of weeks for those gems of outdated knowledge from drivers you forgot about. Till the team launches, we have some dull F1 'news' ahead!!

How Much Time Could They Need?

While Virgin play the smart game, keeping quiet near the ever persistent journos, HRT swagger into the back of the pits with a megaphone and nothing much to say. This time it's with a promise; "We will get better in a couple of years, we just need to iron out a few things. Shouldn't take more than ten years, tops!"

HRT recently restructured, replacing HRT 11th hour man Colin Kolles with Luis Perez-Sala, former team mate of pervious HRT principal Adrián Campos. Kolles moved into HRT after rich Spariard, José Ramón Carabante (more than a mouthful) bought the team from the struggling Campos. Kolles roll was to bring a decade of experience to the start-up. After 2 years and little to no success, Campos (now executive VP at HRT) has managed to bring in a mate with little leadership experience and no open wheel driving experience in the last 20 years to bring the results the management yearn. Sound nepotistic?

This week Perez-Sala (I'm gonna get sick of writing that) admitted it is highly likely HRT will start 2012 in worse condition than they finished 2011. Firstly, how is that even possible? Perhaps HRT mistakenly received the regulations for Formula Palmer in their email before starting on the 2012 car?!

Only managing to beat Virgin in 2011 (named Virgin because nobody would do it with such losers) HRT has no where to retreat to! How will we judge if HRT is performing below 2011 standards? I thought of a few ideas.....

  • HRT drivers get bored and start driving the wrong way.
  • HRT drivers get the 'Wrong way turn around' signs usually saved for computer games.
  • HRT replace their Pirelli F1 tyres with Prius tyres.
  • HRT's pits are moved to the shed next to the concession stand.
  • HRT arrive at the track two weeks too late.
  • HRT almost finish a lap at Spa before Kimi Raikkonen wins the GP in his Lotus Renault.
  • HRT arrive at Singapore with headlights mounted to the front of their car.
  • HRT drop Cosworth in favour of a Spanish engine.
  • HRT spy on Virgin.
  • HRT claim Daniel Ricciardo's maiden victory.
  • HRT paint their car red claiming it goes faster.
  • HRT show the BBC around their simulator consisting of a PS3, a 32 inch TV and a copy of F1 2010.
  • HRT hire Rubens Barrichello as their number two driver.

Harder Than I Thought

How hard is it to remain focused on writing an F1 blog by yourself all season? Turns out very hard!

I love this blog and will find a way to keep writing about the things that tickle me in F1.

Oh and poor Adrian Sutil is worried about finding a drive next year. Pity him best mate Hamilton can't bail him out.

Yay Webber for grabbing a win just as the 2011 curtain dropped. That's how us Aussies like to do it, last minute!

I'll finish this season the same way the BBC did, with their end credits.
